How
to Join Our Expert
Panels
Thank you for your interest in MedicoLegal Consultants.
Perhaps you will consider joining
our select group of physicians and surgeons and other health-care experts. These
highly
competent professionals have agreed to serve as consultants and expert witnesses in a
variety
of health-related legal and administrative proceedings. Many perform
independent
medical reviews and examinations. Our clients include
plaintiffs' and defense attorneys,
insurance companies, regulatory and
professional agencies and private individuals
nationwide.
All specialties are needed, especially cardiology, dental specialties,
infectious diseases,
neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics & gynecology, oncology, ophthalmology,
orthopedics,
otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry (including
forensic) and psychology,
pulmonary diseases, radiology, rheumatology, and surgery (including cardiovascular, general, head & neck,
oncology,
oral, plastic and thoracic), and urology. Academic physicians and
medical scientists (PhD) are
particularly welcome. We also represent a
number of basic scientists (e.g. DNA specialists, toxicologists),
nurses (RN), physician's assistants, podiatrists, veterinarians, health-care
administrators and other
paramedical specialists with outstanding
credentials.
To qualify as an expert, clinicians should be board-certified in their
specialty, have a minimum of five
years practice experience and hold
an unrestricted license to practice in at least one of the 50 states.
For academic-based experts a PhD or MD with appropriate research and
publication credentials is the
usual standard. A clean record with the
National Practitioner Data Bank adds to one's credibility as an
expert
but is not absolutely mandatory. There is room for some flexibility depending on experience and
credentials. Individual
situations may be discussed with our Medical Director.
As an expert you are free to set your own fees and negotiate directly with the
client we refer. We are
paid a referral fee by the client prior to the referral. Experts'
opinions are their own and we do not try
to influence their decisions. We encourage our experts to testify
in depositions and trials if required. If
this is a problem, it should be discussed with the client before
accepting the consultation assignment.
Case
assignment is a complex matter and depends mostly on our clients' preferences
and time and
geographic requirements and the availability of experts in a particular field
. Consequently, we cannot
guarantee that an expert will be offered a certain number of cases. We do offer a partial refund
of the
registration fee ($75) if we are unable to provide work within two years from the time of sign-up.
If you are interested in becoming an expert, please register by
going to the
Expert Consultant's
Information
form, completing
and returning it to us along with the registration fee and a copy of
your
CV. A business card is also helpful. For experts, a $100 initial registration and marketing fee* must
accompany the application. If accepted, your name will then be held in confidence and circulated on
request to
our clients nationwide as a high quality expert in your fields(s).
