 About Experts

  WHAT KIND OF EXPERT DO YOU NEED?

We provide experts in medical, paramedical and
  scientific fields. This includes doctors in every
  specialty; related professions such as nursing,
  dentistry, chiropractic, EMT, podiatry, psychology,
  health and hospital and nursing home administration;
  and basic and clinical scientists with every type
  research experience. We also have found unusual
  experts in somewhat distant fields such as veterinary
   medicine, electrocution specialist, biomedical engineering, prosthetic design pharmaceutical executive,
   blood bank manager, etc. If you need an expert and it's even remotely related to bio-medicine, give us a
   call. Our medical director has had 30 years experience as a board certified internist with two
   subspecialties and as an academic and community-based physician. He will be glad to discuss your expert
   needs without charge.

   HOW TO HELP US FIND THE RIGHT EXPERT FOR YOU

When requesting an expert, here is some of the information that will help us find the right person:
   having this information available will facilitate our search. While we have often found experts on one
   day's (or less) notice, not calling us at the last minute is appreciated.

       1. The names and location of the plaintiff(s) and defendant(s) and whom you represent;
       2. Your name, firm and contact information (address, phone, fax, e-mail);
       3. A brief description of the case and the allegations;
       4. Type of expert (if known);
       5. Any time constraints or deadlines (hearings, declaration of experts, trial dates, etc.);

  6. Your requirements for the expert's location (local, in-state only,adjacent states okay, etc.)

   WHAT DO EXPERTS COST?
   Expert charges vary widely and may range from $100 to $500 per hour for case review, usually more
   for deposition or trial testimony. Fees are generally dependent on an expert's specialty, credentials and
   reputation but may also vary with location and "the market."  We are guided by your wishes regarding
   cost and location. In some cases, expert fees are negotiable. Our prices are quite competitive.
   However, if cost is a major factor, we suggest our lower priced preliminary review for the initial case
   evaluation. We have posted an approximate fee schedule below.

EXPERT FEE SCHEDULES

Panel Experts

These are medical, paramedical, mental health and basic science professionals who are members of
   our expert specialty panels. They are pre-screened and contracted with MedicoLegal Consultants to
   bill and collect on their behalf. We require a 3-4 hour retainer for panel expert services, depending on
   the size of the file for review. Typical hourly fees for case review are quoted below; deposition and trial
   fees are usually higher. A one-time $150 administrative fee is
   additional.

                 General Internal Medicine: $200-$250
                 Medical Subspecialties: $250-$350
                 Paramedical (RN, PA, EMT, etc.): $100-$150
                 Psychiatrist $200-$350;Psychologist: $100-$200
                 Surgical Specialties (Ob-Gyn, Urology): $250-$500; (Orthopedic or Neurosurgery): $400-$700

    Non-Panel Experts
   These are independent experts with whom we are not contracted. In this case, our only charge is a
   search and referral fee, payable in advance. This is usually in the $250-$500 range, depending on time,
   geographic and specialty requirements. The client is then free to contract with the expert directly.
   Expert's fees are similar to those listed above. Screening for conflicts or credibility problems is up to
   the client.

    Preliminary Medical Review

   This is our lower cost case review only option. Medical opinions and short written reports (if desired)
   are included  but deposition and trial testimony are not. While we will take the client's wishes into
   account, we retain the right to select the appropriate reviewer. If further action is warranted, we will
   be glad to provide an expert. Many of our panel experts also do medical review.

              Review by RN or PA: $500 complete*
              Review by MD: $850 complete*
              * up to 3 hours; additional time may be billed.

    Independent Medical Examination (IME)
   These physicians and surgeons will perform independent examinations on patients for personal injury
   litigation, insurance claims, disability evaluations, second opinions, etc. Our referral fee is $250 in
   advance unless otherwise quoted. Typical IME fees for a record review, examination and report are
   listed below.

             Cardiologist: $400-$700
             Internist: $300-$600
             Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon: $700-$1500
             Other Surgical Specialist: $400-$1000
             Psychiatrist: $350-$600

    Special Experts
   We may charge a higher fee for experts doing unusual or highly sophisticated research or with
   unusually prestigious credentials and national reputations. We will offer specific quotations for this
   category. A no-charge discussion of the specific case with our medical director is highly recommended.
